Previously, we discussed that God did not create sin. When Adam and Eve chose to disobey God’s command, their disobedience introduced sin into the world (Gen. 3:6), which introduced judgment. When Adam and Eve sinned, God could have judged them on the spot. That judgment would have been immediate death—separation from God (Rom. 6:23). This is not physical death. This is spiritual death, our position of guilt with God after physical death.

The Bible states, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Rom. 5:12). But God still desired to have a relationship with us. But man’s sin had to be taken care of. So God provided a way. Genesis 3:15 is that provision. “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel.” These words prophecy the coming of our Savior who would save man from their sin! God was telling Satan, death will come to you. My Son will destroy you (2 Cor. 5:21).

In the remainder of the Old Testament, God reveals why we need a Savior through the stories of His people, the Israelites. God did not create sin, but He provided a provision to remove our sin where we could have a relationship with Him for all eternity. The New Testament introduces us to that Savior.
